While today’s electronic tools offer easy organization, sharing, portable storage and data backup, paper planners have several inherent advantages making them ever-popular, effective time management tools:
1. See more
Larger planners make it easy to keep your time management tools with meeting notes and other business materials. A week or month view in a paper based planner can contain many more details than a similar perspective in a smart phone screen.
2. Edit fast
It is often faster to write an entry in a paper planner then enter it electronically, and some claim the physical act of writing a note or appointment can facilitate recall.
3. Keep off the grid
With a paper planner you also don’t have to worry about regular battery charging or carrying the related cables. As phone screen sizes increase, batteries rarely take them through an entire day.
4. Feel good
Even though the market it shrinking, options abound for fine finishes in paper and covers. Choose a size, colour and material that feels good in your hands.
Many systems such as Day-Timer®, Franklin Covey, Levenger have design-ability built in. Choose from a variety of different ways to view time and add organizing and time management accessories that suit your lifestyle. Look for added information you might find useful to have in your calendar. I created a desk calendar for families for 2012 and included an Emergency Information and Caregiver page right up front.
If you use a paper planner and have more convincing reasons why, I’d love to hear them.
